GREEN FRIDAY. THE ANTI BLACK FRIDAY MOVEMENT.

Green Friday is an anti-Black Friday movement that promotes more mindful gift shopping that is less harmful to the environment.

It is a movement to highlight the value of Small Business in Local Communities and encouraging businesses to focus on how they offer value, experiences, and human connection first to their customers and asking customers to think more consciously about businesses within the community and how we can support them.

Before Bee Potion was created I had previously worked for a large retail company. I saw the way they planned for weeks and even months in advance, in order to perfect the most strategic marketing and pricing strategies to get rid of as much unwanted stock as possible during the hight of the festive 'buying' period.

Green Friday is all about changing our mindsets from “buy, buy, buy” to finding alternative ways to give gifts during the holiday season, so we don’t cause further damage to the Earth. It’s definitely a big change, and many people wouldn’t even consider giving it a try, but even if only a small percentage of the population makes the switch, it’ll mean great things for the environment.

WARP & WEFT | 68A GEORGE ST, HASTINGS

We all know how much small, indigenous business means to the country, not only to our economy and our employment but also to our culture. I believe that is is so important to support and uplift each other and our communities. With a strong sense of community and togetherness we can over come whatever challenges lie ahead, especially during this turbulent time.

When the lockdown period eases at the beginning of December, I urge you (face mask and hand sanitiser at the ready) to and pop down to your local independent retailers and check out the great selection of unique gifts and festive deals that they are offering. If you are unable to get out, I also know that many of these businesses also offer online shopping, so be sure to do some research.

This year we will be running a little green Friday offer on some of our evergreen potion, with the aim of raising funds that will support our woodland wellbeing work for the new year - so please be sure to check this out, as every little helps! Unfortunately we were unable to run some important courses this autumn, but we are hoping to resume our work as soon as possible.
